Many of Emily's fondest memories involve time spent in the water. Scuba diving with her brother, learning to surf, and floating quietly under blue skies. While Emily is a beginner to sailing, she is deeply committed to the Making Way Project. She believes that we learn about ourselves, and our own courage, when we explore new opportunities in unfamiliar territory. Emily believes that these opportunities, including learning to sail, have the ability to shape young women. And show them glimpses of what they are capable of.
When not finding ways to be closer to the water, Emily is a lawyer at Lerners LLP in Toronto. She has a diverse commercial litigation practice, with a focus on high-stakes, complex business disputes. She is on the Commercial List Users' Committee, which advises on the operations of and improvements to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice's specialized court, the Commercial List. Emily volunteers as counsel with Pro Bono Ontario, and is on the Board of Directors of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. She holds science and law degrees from the University of Toronto, and is called to the bar in Ontario and New York.

Jessica is an art and architectural historian. She is currently the Postdoctoral Fellow in the History of Canadian Architecture and Landscape in the Department of Art History at the University of Toronto, and an Adjunct Professor in both the Department of Urban and Tourism Studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal and the Department of Visual Art and Art History at York University (Toronto). She is also the Editor in Chief of the Journal of the Society for the Study of Architecture in Canada, serves on the board of that organization, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies.
In her other life, Jessica is a lifelong sailor, who taught sailing for many years at Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club (Pickering), Island Yacht Club (Toronto), and Queen City Yacht Club (Toronto). An avid racer, she is an alumna of the Queen’s University Sailing Team where she won Female MVP in 2007. She continues to race to this day on a J/22, and also co-founded the Queen City Yacht Club “Top Gun” Racing Program. In her spare time, she sails a C&C 33 MK II out of Queen City Yacht Club.

Debra is a lawyer at WeirFoulds LLP where she provides strategic advice and acts as counsel for a number of regulatory bodies, as well as other public and private sector clients, in relation to regulatory issues, complaints and discipline, and civil litigation matters.
Debra first learned to sail in 2005 and, since 2015, she has been a happy member of the Queen City Yacht Club in Toronto - sailing locally and tolling the summers away on her "vintage" 1978 Mirage 26. In addition to day-sailing in Lake Ontario, Debra has also sailed in the Caribbean, completing trips around St. Maarten, St. Barth's and Anguilla in 2016, St. Lucia and Martinique in 2017, and in Antigua in 2019.
In August 2019, Debra was thrilled to be guest crew aboard Maiden for the Vancouver-Seattle leg of its world sailing tour. The tour commemorated the historic finish of Maiden and the first all-women crew to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989-90 and to fundraise for charities that support the education and empowerment of girls around the world.
